Daochier Imchen wins Koridang bypoll in Nagaland, youngest MLA

Daochier I Imchen, a 35-year-old BJP candidate, won the Koridang assembly by-election in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district, securing 7,317 votes out of 18,400 and defeating five rivals. The win keeps the Koridang seat with the BJP and sets Imchen up to become the youngest MLA in Nagaland’s 60-member assembly. The by-poll was held after the death of his father and sitting MLA Imkong L. Imchen in November 2025, who represented the constituency since 2003. I am thankful to God and the people of Koridang AC for this victory—for extending the same support they have given my father, who represented the constituency since 2003. I accept it with utmost humility, I will strive to emulate his good qualities in serving the people, Imchen said in a statement. The election was conducted as part of a consensus between the CM Rio-led NPF-BJP alliance, with Imchen fielded as the consensus candidate. CM Rio lauded Imchen on social media, noting the mandate reflects public confidence in their shared vision and the drive to advance development. BJP state president Yepthomi added that the victory belongs to every BJP karyakarta across Nagaland and signposts the rising aspirations of the state's youth. In the counting, independent candidate Toshikaba received 4,194 votes, another independent, Imtiwapang Kichu, 3,733, NPP’s Abenjang I. 3,129, Congress’s T Chalukumba Ao 144, and independent Imchatoba 145.
