Delhi blast victims face hearing loss as doctors treat ear injuries
Victims of the Delhi blast at Red Fort are being treated at LNJP Hospital with hearing loss and ear trauma, doctors say, as investigations continue.
A blast in the heart of Delhi on Monday claimed 13 lives and left many injured. Victims have been admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) in different departments as the national capital grapples with the attack. Authorities say 12 people are receiving treatment at LNJP, with six in the isolation ward, four in the ICU, four in the neurosurgery unit, and one in the trauma centre. Eight victims have been identified so far from the 13 killed, as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) leads the probe on its fifth day.
Among those being treated are Md Safwan, 28, from Chennai, who is experiencing pain in both ears along with abrasions and swelling on a leg. Another 28-year-old, Shiva Jaiswal from Uttar Pradesh, is dealing with hearing issues in both ears, burns on the arm and face, and multiple abrasions.
Dr Devinder Rai, Senior ENT Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, explained that the severity of blast injuries depends on distance from the explosion and other factors. He noted that some people’s ears are more sensitive to noise-induced trauma, a phenomenon sometimes called “soft ears.” The result can be temporary or permanent hearing impairment, and in some cases tinnitus, a persistent ringing in the ear.
Doctors stressed that the road to recovery will vary and will depend on the blast’s intensity and the victim’s proximity. Families continue to wait for more information as investigators piece together the sequence of events. The Delhi blast has drawn nationwide attention as officials warn of ongoing investigations and the need for victims to receive timely medical care and support.
Medical teams say updates will come as assessments progress, and they urged the public to rely on official briefings for the latest on the investigation and the status of the wounded.
