Former Mizoram governor Swaraj Kaushal, husband of the late Sushma Swaraj, dies at 73; PM Modi and leaders mourn as family remembers his public service.
Former Mizoram governor Swaraj Kaushal, a senior advocate and the husband of the late Sushma Swaraj, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73. He was rushed to AIIMS after complaining of chest pain, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The BJP Delhi unit said the former governor will be cremated at Lodhi Road crematorium.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Kaushal as a lawyer who used his profession to improve the lives of the underprivileged and noted that he became India's youngest governor, leaving a lasting impression on Mizoram's people and his parliamentary peers. His daughter, Bansuri Swaraj, remembered him for his discipline, patriotism, and affection, saying his light would never dim even as he reunites with her mother, Sushma Swaraj.
Kaushal's public career spanned political service and law. He married Sushma Swaraj in 1975, and their family has continued to be prominent in Delhi politics. The condolence messages highlighted his contributions to governance and the legal sector, and many remember him for his humility and commitment to public service.
