The Army on January 31 re-established contact with a group of terrorists thought to be hiding in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, launching updates in the ongoing Operation Trashi-I. The contact was confirmed in the early hours in the general area of Dolgam, with troops from the White Knight Corps working alongside J&K Police and CRPF. A cordon has been established and the operation continues, with intelligence inputs from multiple sources coordinated to guide ground actions.
In recent weeks, security forces had engaged terrorists in firefights across Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo, signaling a persistent search in the Chenab Valley. Internet services in these areas were suspended as anti-terror operations intensified, a move aimed at disrupting communications for militants. Reports indicate that around three terrorists may still be hiding in the upper reaches, contributing to the security forces’ cautious, sustained push. Earlier in the month, a soldier lost his life in a firefight with militants in the Singhpora forests, underscoring the risk and scale of the operation. A terrorist hideout uncovered on a cliff slope contained cooking gas cylinders and large quantities of eatables before being destroyed by security forces.
As the operation continued, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma visited Kishtwar to review the counter-terrorism grid and assess ongoing efforts. His visit followed multiple encounters and the current phase of the operation, underscoring the high level of coordination among the Army, police, and central forces. The persistent focus on breaking the terror network in these rough terrains reflects a broader regional emphasis on stability and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
The suspension of mobile internet in Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo remains in place as authorities monitor the situation and provide operational margins for security forces.
