Wife, Lover Arrested in Rajasthan for Pre-Planned Husband Murder

A 23-year-old woman named Anjali allegedly orchestrated the murder of her husband, Ashish Kumar, just three months after their arranged marriage in Sri Ganganagar. The killing occurred on the night of January 30 on a deserted stretch near the Rawla village as the couple walked after dinner. The act appeared initially to be a robbery gone wrong, but investigators say it was a pre-planned killing.

Anjali is said to have conspired with her longtime boyfriend, Sanjay, 25, and his two friends, Rohit, 20, and Siddharth, 20. The four were arrested on February 3. Investigations revealed that Anjali and Sanjay had been involved with each other for six to seven years and that she had been unhappy with the arrangement to marry Ashish. She reportedly discussed her plans with Sanjay, including her opposition to pursuing higher studies after marriage.

Before the murder, Anjali reportedly visited her parental home in Sadulshahar 16 days prior, where she and Sanjay allegedly finalised the plan to eliminate Ashish. Anjali had hoped to pursue an MA in Sri Ganganagar after marriage, but her husband opposed it, fueling resentment.

Ashish Kumar had joined as a private school teacher just three days before his death. The attackers allegedly struck with sticks and then strangled him with a muffler when he did not die immediately. There are indications that the plan also aimed to mischaracterize the incident as a road accident to obscure the crime.

The case has provoked shock and condemnation from family members, with Anjali’s uncle lamenting the betrayal and saying the perpetrators should be punished. The family reportedly would have opposed the marriage had they known about Anjali’s relationship with Sanjay, highlighting the deep breach of trust involved in this tragedy.
