Nicolas Cage Shuns Amazon AI, Teases "True Detective" Role!
Nicolas Cage makes waves at New York Comic-Con, refusing Amazon's AI waiver for 'Spider-Noir' and hinting at a major role in HBO's 'True Detective'. Get the scoop on his fight for human creativity!
Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage dropped some bombshells at New York Comic-Con, revealing he's likely parting ways with Amazon due to their aggressive push for AI technology. The acclaimed actor, known for his diverse roles, openly stated his refusal to sign an AI waiver for the now-canceled “Spider-Noir” series, signaling a strong stance against the growing use of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on the Empire Stage, Cage declared,
Amazon is a very AI-friendly company, to the tune of $50 billion invested in OpenAI. I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it's like, connect those dots! I'm not a member of their club.
His refusal to sign the waiver for "Spider-Noir" has led him to believe he likely won't be working with the studio again.
This comes after Amazon canceled the popular superhero series last month, despite its significant viewership (2.6 billion minutes in six weeks) and 11 Emmy nominations, which was a shock to many in the industry. Amidst the AI discussion, Cage also shared his enthusiasm for working with the next generation of filmmakers.
He praised Gen-Z directors who are creating content "from scratch and by hand," citing figures like Kane Parsons, whose YouTube success with "Backrooms" led to a record-breaking horror film for A24.
Cage expressed a desire to collaborate with these innovative creators, emphasizing a return to authentic, human-driven storytelling.
Perhaps the most unexpected revelation of the panel came when Cage, fresh off his first leading TV role in "Spider-Noir," casually announced his next project: a season of HBO's critically acclaimed series, "True Detective." He playfully acknowledged his agent might not be thrilled about him breaking the news, quipping, "That's okay that I'm the first to announce that, right?" HBO has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding Cage's participation, but the news has already sent ripples of excitement through the fan community, eager to see what the Oscar-winner will bring to the dark anthology series.
