In Kathmandu, police have arrested three foreign nationals in connection with a 4.3-kilogram cocaine haul, in two related incidents on Tuesday, December 24, 2025. The two Indian nationals, Xavier Mathew Thaliachery, 55, and Mursalen Hussain, 21, were nabbed in Sinamangal near Kathmandu, with 3.75 kg of cocaine seized from them. Hussain had arrived in Kathmandu from Laos via Singapore when detained.
In the second incident, Thai national Rusanee Kama, 40, was arrested at a hotel in Singmangal with 550 grams of cocaine after a tip-off. Police recovered 12 plastic-coated capsules from her room. She reportedly swallowed 29 capsules to evade arrest; the capsules were later recovered after her admission to a nearby hospital, and police say 41 capsules have been recovered in total so far. Authorities have filed charges under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act 2033 B.S. and have taken the suspects into judicial custody with permission from the Kathmandu District Court.
The operation was conducted by a Narcotics Control Bureau team from Koteshwar following a tip-off, underscoring ongoing efforts to disrupt cross-border drug networks and trafficking routes. The case continues as investigators seek to ensure full accountability under Nepal's narcotics laws.
