Asian Games: Squash Star Anahat Singh Set to Dominate, Coach Predicts!

Former World No. 1 James Willstrop, now a vital part of the coaching staff for the Asian Games-bound Indian squash contingent, has high praise for young sensation Anahat Singh. Willstrop believes her instinctive attacking game makes her a truly "unusual player" on the court. He highlighted her exceptional ability to move to the front of the court and hit accurate short shots, a skill he rarely sees executed so effectively by someone of her caliber.

Speaking at the Indian Squash Academy (ISA) in Chennai, Willstrop noted that Anahat's constant threat to attack the front keeps her opponents "constantly on edge." Despite being the reigning World junior champion, Anahat is still "very young" and relatively inexperienced compared to her compatriots. Willstrop affectionately called her a "baby" in the professional circuit, having played barely any platinum events.

However, he also pointed out that this youth might come with less pressure, allowing her to play more freely.

The 43-year-old squash legend predicts a bright future for the 18-year-old. He expects her to become "increasingly difficult to beat" as she matures physically and tactically.

Willstrop sees his role at the Asian Games as primarily providing "tactical support" and sharing his vast experience with the players. Beyond Anahat, he also sees strong medal prospects in the men's singles.

Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani are both mentioned as having "great chances." He recalled Veer's impressive performance against Ali Farag at the World Championships, suggesting that if he can replicate that form, a medal is well within reach for India.
