Delhi battles very poor air quality with dense fog, a yellow alert in place, as AQI climbs to 355 and forecasts expect conditions to persist.
Delhi’s air quality remained very poor on Saturday morning as shallow to moderate fog enveloped parts of the city, with the minimum temperature at 7.6°C and a expected maximum around 21-23°C. The western disturbance influencing the region is keeping temperatures in that range for the next few days.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Sunday, warning that moderate to dense fog could affect visibility in the early hours. Air quality readings reflected the grim conditions, with an AQI of 355 (very poor) recorded at 9am on Saturday, up from 332 at 4pm on Friday. The Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) indicates the poor air quality could persist into the following week. Visibility at Safdarjung dropped to 400m by 8:30am before improving to 500m by 9am, while Palam reported 800m visibility around the same time.
As the city grapples with the ongoing fog and pollution, residents are urged to monitor updates and minimize outdoor exposure, especially for vulnerable groups. Officials say the situation will be reassessed as weather patterns evolve, but the current outlook suggests a continuation of poor air quality in the near term.
