A mother's brave act saves two children on the Yamuna Expressway amid dense fog, but she remains missing as rescue teams search for victims.
On the Yamuna Expressway near Baldeo in Mathura district, a dense fog condition triggered a multi-vehicle pile-up that left the highway scene blazing in the early hours. Officials say the crash involved several buses and other vehicles, with flames erupting across multiple cabins and roads blocked for hours. At least 13 people were killed and more than 90 were injured as drivers and passengers tried to escape the inferno. Bodies were reported burned beyond recognition, complicating identification and delaying help for the injured.
In a bid to save her children, 42-year-old Parvati Devi, travelling from Hamirpur in Uttar Pradesh with her two kids, Prachi (8) and Shani (12), pushed them out through a broken window to escape the flames. She could not follow and is feared dead; her body has not yet been traced. DNA analysis is expected to confirm whether she is among the deceased. Her family rushed to Mathura—husband Govind and her brother-in-law joined the search and waited for word at district hospitals.
The victims’ families, many from nearby districts, continued to wait for news as authorities worked to identify casualties and clear the wreckage. The incident underscored the dangers posed by fog on busy expressways and the need for rapid response and safety measures on highways.
