Rahul Gandhi’s Rally Against Alleged ‘Vote Theft’
Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar accuses the Election Commission of manipulating voter rolls. What are his findings, motives, and why now?
Rahul Gandhi has launched the Vote Adhikar Yatra, a 16-day march across Bihar. He accuses the Election Commission (EC) of stripping citizens of their fundamental right to vote. His journey is both protest and plea. But why this march now, and what does he claim?

What is the Vote Adhikar Yatra?
Starting August 17, Gandhi will tour over 20 districts in Bihar. The journey aims to alert citizens about alleged voter disenfranchisement tied to the EC’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. His INDIA-alliance partners will join in a major rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on September 1.
What has Rahul Gandhi found?
He alleges “vote chori” or vote theft through manipulation of voter lists. In Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency, he claimed over 1 lakh fake or duplicate votes. These include invalid addresses, bulk registrations, and Form-6 misuse.
During a press conference, he branded the evidence as an “atom bomb” that proves election rigging.
In Bihar, he held “tea” with seven live residents whom SIR had nonetheless marked as deceased, a dark satire meant to illustrate the depth of discrepancies.

His Grievances toward the Election Commission
Gandhi accuses the EC of colluding with the ruling party. He claims the SIR process targets the poor, minorities, and opposition supporters. He posted spoof videos parodying the EC for mismanagement and to mock its handling of the vote rolls. Rahul Gandhi asserts the EC refuses to share digital or machine-readable voter lists, blocking transparency and examination.
Why Now
Bihar will go to polls later this year. Gandhi’s campaign aims to highlight perceived electoral unfairness early. His earlier “Vote Chori” campaign laid the groundwork. It included launching a website to report irregularities and mobilize citizens.
Mobilizing on the streets in Bihar, an opposition stronghold, where he seeks to galvanize the public and strengthen the INDIA bloc’s momentum.
