A Qantas flight from Melbourne to Dallas was diverted to Tahiti after a passenger allegedly bit a flight attendant, prompting an emergency stop on the long-haul service.
The QF21 service departed Melbourne at 2:30 pm on Friday and, seven hours into the journey, diverted to Papeete, where authorities met the aircraft and took control of the situation.
On arrival in Papeete, the passenger was issued a no-fly ban by Qantas, barring him from all future Qantas and Jetstar flights, as the airline emphasised that safety is its top priority and there is zero tolerance for disruptive behaviour.
Footage circulating on social media shows a heated exchange between the man and cabin crew, although the clip does not capture the moment the biting allegedly occurred.
After refuelling, the plane resumed its journey to Dallas about 35 minutes later.
