The political arena in Jharkhand is reeling from accusations of "betrayal" following the recent Rajya Sabha elections, where Congress candidate Pranav Jha faced an unexpected defeat. Senior Congress leader Rajesh Thakur has openly voiced his concerns, suggesting that alliance partners Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation may not have upheld their commitment to the INDIA bloc.
Thakur elaborated on the numbers, indicating that the Congress had anticipated 26 votes but only secured 21, with one vote being declared invalid. "We had 26 votes, and we got 21 votes, with one vote invalid," Thakur explained to ANI. He detailed the expected vote distribution within the alliance: 16 from Congress, four from JMM, four from RJD, and two from CPI(ML)L. The significant shortfall strongly points to a lack of support from RJD and CPI(ML)L, leading to the loss of a crucial seat.
"There has been a betrayal, and betrayal happens only where there is trust. We all have to think seriously about this," Thakur added, highlighting the profound disappointment within the party. This setback allowed NDA-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani to emerge victorious, alongside INDIA alliance's Baidyanath Ram from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), for the two Upper House seats from Jharkhand.
Nathwani's win was met with congratulations from BJP leaders, and he has since expressed gratitude, reaffirming his dedication to development work, particularly in Jharkhand's rural regions. This outcome not only represents a notable victory for the NDA but also exposes potential fissures within the opposition's INDIA alliance, prompting introspection and urgent discussions among its constituents in Jharkhand.
