The political landscape of India's opposition alliance, INDIA bloc, is witnessing a significant rift as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has launched a blistering attack on the Congress party and its prominent leader, Rahul Gandhi. In its official mouthpiece, 'Murasoli', the DMK accused Gandhi of "weakening" the opposition front and labeled him "dishonest and immature."
The friction escalated in the aftermath of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, where the Congress announced an alliance with Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This move by Congress, an INDIA bloc partner, was seen by the DMK as a betrayal and an attempt to undermine its regional allies. The DMK's mouthpiece alleged a pattern where Congress seeks the support of its partners for national parliamentary elections but actively works to diminish their power during state-level assembly polls.
According to 'Murasoli', the Congress has "done everything possible to prevent fellow INDIA bloc partners from coming to power" in various state elections. The publication further claimed that during a recent INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, where DMK was conspicuously absent due to the perceived betrayal, several leaders expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress's approach. Rahul Gandhi, it stated, was "caught off-guard" and "did not appreciate the comments," implying he was unprepared for such criticism.
"The responsibility for that lies with Rahul Gandhi's political immaturity and dishonesty," the DMK's mouthpiece asserted. Echoing these sentiments, DMK leader TKS Elangovan told ANI that "whatever Rahul Gandhi has to say, Tamil Nadu will not accept." He highlighted that immediately after the elections, Congress MLAs shifted allegiance to TVK, with two even securing ministerial posts, further fueling the DMK's resentment and solidifying the perception of Congress's opportunistic behavior within the alliance.
