Train services connecting London Paddington to Heathrow Airport have fully resumed following significant disruption caused by a grass fire near the tracks over the weekend. The blaze, which occurred at Scrubs Lane in North Kensington on Saturday, led to widespread cancellations and delays for thousands of passengers.
The fire caused an electricity supply failure, blocking all lines between the crucial transport hub and Heathrow. This impacted the Elizabeth Line, Heathrow Express, and Great Western Railway (GWR) services, leaving many travelers stranded or facing lengthy delays. London Fire Brigade swiftly responded to the incident, deploying six fire engines and approximately 40 crew members to tackle the inferno.
National Rail confirmed on Sunday morning that the disruption had finally ended, allowing services to return to their normal schedules.
The swift action of emergency services and railway staff was crucial in restoring operations efficiently.
However, separate pre-planned engineering works are also impacting some Sunday morning services.
Lines between London Paddington and Burnham, and specifically between London Paddington and Ealing Broadway, were closed early on Sunday.
This means Elizabeth line services to and from Maidenhead and Reading operated on an amended timetable until 7:40 AM, and GWR services also experienced rescheduling.
A reduced local service is running between London Paddington, Reading, and Didcot Parkway due to these planned works.
