Delhi Police Aaghat 3.0: 1,300 Detained and Weapons Seized Ahead of New Year
Overnight crackdown in Delhi nets hundreds of arrests and a wave of seizures as New Year celebrations approach.
In a bid to ensure a crime-free New Year, Delhi Police rolled out Operation Aaghat 3.0 in the early hours, with a focus on the South East district. The crackdown resulted in 285 arrests in cases registered under the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act, and Gambling Act, alongside 504 preventive actions and 116 individuals listed as Bad Characters being taken into custody. The operation also saw 10 property offenders and 5 auto-lifters detained.
During the raids, authorities recovered 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges, and 27 knives. They also seized 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and 6.01 kg of ganja. In gambling-related cases, Rs 2,30,990 in cash was seized. Additionally, the drive led to the recovery or seizure of 310 snatched, robbed, or lost mobile phones, along with 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler being taken off the streets.
Overall, 1,306 people were rounded up under preventive measures as part of the exercise, underscoring the capital’s heightened security posture ahead of New Year. Police officials stressed that such operations will continue to safeguard residents and visitors while celebrations unfold.
