BJP nominates M Arulmurugan as Karaikal South candidate for Puducherry, completing its slate ahead of April 9 polls and aligning with key allies.
Bharatiya Janata Party has named M Arulmurugan as its candidate for Karaikal South in the Puducherry assembly elections, setting the stage for a focused contest in the 30-seat territory. The decision comes as part of a broader effort to finalize the party’s candidate slate for the April 9 polls. Earlier, BJP had released a first list of nine candidates that included Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Speaker R. Selvam, PML Kalyanasundaram, an MLA, and V.P. Ramalingam, the state president, signaling the party’s intention to expand its footprint across Puducherry.
With Karaikal South now filled, BJP has completed its slate for the 30-seat election, contesting 10 seats alongside allies AINRC, AIADMK, and LJK. The party’s setup in Puducherry reflects a multiparty contest that many voters will closely scrutinize as the election nears.
Preparations for the polls are advancing, with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPATs readied for more than 9.44 lakh voters. Campaigns are expected to intensify as parties emphasize local development issues and broader governance themes, aiming to translate party visibility into votes in Karaikal South and beyond.
