Jarkiholi's ED Raid: Congress-BJP Link in Complaint?

Karnataka Public Works Minister Sathish Jarkiholi, recently under the scanner of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), has shed light on the origins of the complaint against him. Speaking to the press, Jarkiholi revealed that the complainant has 'relations with the Congress, but was a BJP voter.' This peculiar detail has added a new layer of intrigue to the ongoing investigation, prompting Jarkiholi to state, "So, it is like 50:50.

It is difficult to tell anything."

This statement quickly fueled political debate, with the BJP seizing the opportunity to assert that the ED raids stem from internal squabbling within the Congress party, thereby absolving themselves of any involvement. BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra speculated, "Satish Jarkiholi has openly expressed aspiration to become the Chief Minister.

Ashok challenged Jarkiholi to name the alleged Congress leader who 'backstabbed him.'

Addressing the case itself, Jarkiholi affirmed his intention to legally challenge the ED's suspicions and allegations with facts and documents. He acknowledged that while minor errors might have occurred, he firmly denies the ED's claim of significant offshore investments. His argument is that these investments are still in the planning stages, awaiting necessary permissions, including from the RBI.

We definitely intend to make those investments, but were yet to make them, is our stand,

he stated, anticipating further legal developments.

The ED, in its statement, alleged that the Jarkiholi family had invested in three mining companies in Congo and Zambia, including a gold mining firm, in violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. Furthermore, the ED also stated it had raided Bharat Vanijya Eastern Private Ltd (BVEPL) over allegations of large bribe payments for a PWD tender, supposedly used by the Jarkiholi family to acquire foreign assets.

While Jarkiholi addressed the offshore investment claims, he did not comment on the corruption allegations.

In a surprising turn, fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya publicly extended his support to Jarkiholi via social media platform X.

Mallya criticized the ED's actions, writing, "The Enforcement Directorate is boasting about this.

No trial. Just character assassination in public. This does not happen in any other country.

Please think for yourself."
