As HBO begins production on a 10-year television adaptation of JK Rowling’s seven books, the 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin is stepping into the Potter shoes. Radcliffe revealed his connection to the upcoming series and his admiration for the young cast.
I don’t want to be a specter in the life of these children but I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time,’ he shared on Good Morning America. He added that he would love to meet the young actors but respects their space as they begin this new chapter. A sweet note reportedly traveled back from McLaughlin in response to Radcliffe’s message, though Radcliffe didn’t reveal its contents.
Radcliffe was 11 when he first played Harry Potter in the film that started it all, and he went on to reprise the role across several wildly successful films. A recent HBO release gave fans a glimpse of the new Potter, showing McLaughlin in the signature Hogwarts uniform with round-rim glasses and a lightning bolt scar, not unlike the iconic look fans know so well.
