Austin Bar Mass Shooting: FBI Probes Possible Nexus to Terrorism

Two people were killed and 14 others were injured in a mass shooting early Sunday at a bar on Austin’s Sixth Street, authorities said. The attack unfolded at Buford’s Bar as revelers were unwinding after late-night celebrations.

Austin police officers shot and killed the suspected gunman, 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, a Senegalese immigrant who became a naturalized citizen in the United States.

Authorities described the shooter as armed with a rifle and pistol, who fired from his SUV before exiting and continuing to fire at patrons on the patio and sidewalk.

The FBI has labeled the investigation a potential nexus to terrorism, though officials cautioned it is too early to determine a motive.

The episode came hours after Operation Epic Fury, a U.S.-led campaign against Iran in coordination with Israel, with reports of casualties among Iranian officials.

Investigators are examining evidence found on the shooter and in his vehicle, including a shirt reading 'Property of Allah' featuring an Iranian flag design.

Police and federal officials urged the public to be patient as the investigation continues and services for victims are arranged.
