In recent days, Kerala has seen multiple sunstroke incidents, underscoring the risk as the heat intensifies. The state has also reported an orange alert issued in six districts after UV radiation levels surged, signaling authorities to intensify public advisories.
Medical experts warn that the elderly and people with chronic kidney disease are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, and dehydration can be dangerous for those on several medications. The heat can disrupt the body's ability to regulate temperature, so staying indoors or in shade, keeping hydrated, and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity are critical.
Authorities are advising simple safety tips: wear light clothing, a hat, sunscreen, and carry water; plan outdoor work or travel for early morning or late afternoon; monitor symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, or fainting and seek medical help promptly if they occur.
While many Indian states are witnessing heatwaves, Kerala is stepping up its response with public clinics and clear guidance aimed at protecting vulnerable residents.
