Pop star Olivia Rodrigo hosts SNL, performs 'drop dead' and unveils 'begged' with backing vocals, ahead of her June album release and a massive world tour.
Olivia Rodrigo took the stage at Saturday Night Live for a standout night, serving as both host and musical guest in support of her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. She opened her musical set with the lead single “drop dead,” then surprised the audience with a debut of a new ballad called “begged,” featuring Weyes Blood on backing vocals. The performance of drop dead was introduced by Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, while a familiar face from the show, Connor Story, returned to introduce Rodrigo for beged. In the opening monologue, Rodrigo spoofed her own breakout hit with a DMV-era twist, offering a playful nod to her multi-faceted star power.
As host, she flashed versatility in a string of sketches: in “My Room,” she sang about living on a Bug People Planet, and in a Shop TV sketch she played a baker promoting a hilariously sexy lava cake. Other bits had her playing two exes trying to one-up each other, a conniving heiress in a spoof of an ’80s TV show, an Uber passenger with a talent-sharpening driver, a TikToker in a home security ad, and a cheating spouse exposing a suspicious partner.
Rodrigo’s upcoming third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is due June 12, and the SNL appearance served as a major preview. She will also embark on The Unraveled Tour, a sprawling 60-plus date trek across North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, continuing to build momentum ahead of the album release. The night underscored Rodrigo’s growth from teen-pop breakout to a confident, multi-hyphenate artist with a broad, live-show appeal.
