India's AI Impact Summit closes with $250B in AI investments and 5 lakh visitors as a Delhi Declaration on AI is set to be unveiled, signaling global collaboration.
Delhi's AI Impact Summit was described as a landmark moment for India's global leadership in artificial intelligence, closing with eye-popping numbers: roughly $250 billion in investments for AI infrastructure and more than five lakh visitors. The sprawling Bharat Mandapam venue hosted over 500 sessions and 400 exhibitors, and the expo area remained open after the formal talks due to high demand.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw framed the event as a stepping stone for the IndiaAI Mission, outlining plans to push large language models, expand common compute, and strengthen safety. He cited about $20 billion in deep-tech venture commitments that accompanied the policy push. He also hinted that the Delhi Declaration on AI would be unveiled on Saturday, signaling a new era of international cooperation.
Vaishnaw said that more than 70 countries had signed the Delhi Declaration, with major powers reportedly on board, including signatories from the U.S. and China. He cautioned against speculation about signatories and said what mattered was the gathering of nations at the table. The declaration aims to set common norms for AI development, governance, and safety.
The summit, held at the Bharat Mandapam, has a track record of drawing large crowds and industry heavyweights, with several previous events in London, Paris, and Seoul serving as precursors. While the first few days were buoyed by intense attendance that caused logistical hiccups, the organizers reported improvements as the week wore on.
On the sidelines, Prime Minister Modi and Sri Lankan President discussed Indo-Lankan ties amid the AI-focused conversations, underscoring how technology policy and regional diplomacy are intertwined as India positions itself as a global AI leader.
