Bihar Moves NEET Death Case to CBI; Parents Question Impartial Probe
Bihar shifts the NEET aspirant’s death case to the CBI amid parental distrust, as post-mortem hints at sexual assault and transparency concerns surface.
PATNA: The Bihar government has decided to hand over the investigation into the mysterious death of a 17-year-old NEET aspirant to the Central Bureau of Investigation, as her parents call for court-supervised oversight.
The move comes after the girl's parents met Bihar's police leaders, expressing distrust in the inquiry and urging a probe under court supervision. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the CM had asked the central government to transfer the case to the CBI for a thorough, transparent, and impartial probe.
The deceased girl was found unconscious in her hostel room in Patna on January 6 and died in a hospital on January 11. Earlier, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Bihar police was investigating the case.
Post-mortem results reportedly indicate sexual assault, with DNA reports awaited, fueling calls for a rigorous review of the investigation and oversight to ensure accountability.
