Ed Sheeran Bids Farewell to Warner Music After a Global 15-Year Ride
Pop icon Ed Sheeran is parting ways with Warner Music after 15 years and eight hit albums. Find out why the singer says it's time for a professional shift.
After fifteen incredible years and eight full-length albums that topped charts around the world, Ed Sheeran has officially announced his departure from Warner Music. The singer-songwriter shared the news in a heartfelt newsletter to fans, making it clear that this isn't your typical messy industry breakup. Instead, he described the move as a natural evolution for an artist who has grown from a couch-surfing teenager into a father of two.
Sheeran’s journey with the label began when he was just eighteen years old. He famously met Ed Howard from Asylum Records at a small show in Notting Hill and even ended up crashing on Howard's sofa before he even realized the man worked for a record label. Since releasing his debut album, Plus (+), in 2011, Sheeran has sold a staggering amount of music and dominated streaming platforms with hits like Shape of You.
The transition appears to be incredibly smooth. While Warner Music will keep the rights to his early catalog, a long-term distribution deal has been established for his more recent work, which is held under his own Gingerbread Man label. Sheeran emphasized that his life is hugely different now and that he’s been feeling a gut instinct for a long time that his professional life needs to change to match his current priorities.
Reflecting on the early days, Sheeran recalled the tiny pub gigs that almost no one attended except for the label executives who eventually signed him. It marks the end of an era for one of the most successful partnerships in modern music history, but it sounds like both parties are walking away with nothing but mutual respect and a massive legacy behind them.
