India's Bold Move: 27 Arunachal Sites Officially Named, Countering China
India stands firm, officially naming 27 strategically important places in Arunachal Pradesh to counter China's 'fictitious' territorial claims. A definitive statement on sovereignty!
In a decisive move to assert its territorial integrity, India on Friday, August 7, 2026, officially identified 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh by their standard names on the Survey of India map. This significant action directly counters China's repeated attempts to assign what India terms “fictitious names” to locations within the border state. These newly recognized sites include various land features, mountain passes, a lake, and a monument, all strategically important to India's northeastern frontier.
The Union Home Ministry clarified that this formal identification aims to facilitate accurate recognition and enhance public awareness of these areas. India has consistently dismissed China’s naming efforts as attempts to create “baseless narratives” that cannot alter the “undeniable reality” of Arunachal Pradesh being an integral part of India.
Among the 27 locations now formally marked are several sites with historical and strategic significance. Long Ju, situated along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), was a flashpoint in 1959 when Chinese forces entered the area. Maja, a village near Long Ju in Upper Subansiri district, has also been included. Additionally, the list features crucial high-altitude passes like Bisa village, Dzo La, Riza La, and Pukur La. Thag La, where one of the opening battles of the 1962 conflict between Indian and Chinese forces took place, also received its formal identification.
Jairampur in Changlang district, a vital logistics hub and gateway to the eastern border region supporting the movement of security forces towards eastern Arunachal and the Myanmar frontier, is another key location on the list. Other notable sites include Sambho Sarovar (a high-altitude lake), Bara Kundun and Chhota Kundun in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh, Dhan Bari, Pritnagar, Teritnagar, Ramnagar, and Jaswant Garh, which houses a memorial to Indian martyr Jaswant Singh Rawat on Tawang Road. The villages of Sagar, Padma, Jyotinagar, Baisakhi, along with Sher-e-Thapa Memorial commemorating 1962 war hero Trilok Singh Thapa, Chhota Ropuk, Bara Ropuk, Shivaji Nagar, and Sunpura, complete the comprehensive list.
