Kerala Trekker Found Safe After Four-Day Search in Tadiandamol Hills
A 36-year-old Kerala woman trekking solo in Tadiandamol Hills was found safe after a four-day, multi-team search across Kodagu. She is headed home.
A 36-year-old woman from Kerala who went missing while trekking in the Tadiandamol hills of Kodagu district has been found safe after a tense four-day search. Nine teams conducted around-the-clock searches, with support from the Police Department, Anti-Naxal Squad, and Forest Department, and local tribal volunteers aided in the effort. The search was expanded with 40 additional forest personnel deployed on Sunday, following concerns expressed by officials and leaders.
Sharanya, a techie travelling from Kerala, had been staying at a private homestay in Kakkabe village and had set out for the high mountain range on April 2 with a guide and 15 other trekkers. When the rest of the group returned to their base, Sharanya was reported missing after she last contacted the homestay by phone on Thursday, saying she had lost her way. On Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s instructions, more personnel were mobilised to continue the search.
The breakthrough came when she was found deep inside the forest near Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Kodagu, around 5 pm on Sunday. Officials have confirmed she is healthy and will be escorted home to Kerala, with arrangements to ensure a safe return. The rescue operation highlighted the coordinated effort of state agencies and local communities in ensuring a safe outcome.
