Heartbreaking news from Telangana: Four women died and many injured after a bus overturned on Ananthagiri ghat road, with suspected brake failure. CM expresses shock and condolences as rescue efforts continue.
A pall of gloom has descended upon Telangana following a tragic bus accident on Saturday (October 3, 2026), which claimed the lives of four women and left several passengers injured. The private bus, carrying 54 villagers from Kesaram in Patancheru, was on its way to a funeral in Chintakunta village, Dharur mandal, when it overturned on the Ananthagiri ghat road in Vikarabad district.
The deceased have been identified as Yadamma, Padmamma, and Pramila, with the identity of the fourth woman yet to be confirmed. Preliminary reports suggest that brake failure may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle while descending the ghat road. The bus veered off its path, resulting in the devastating overturn.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with local residents quickly rushing to the aid of the trapped and injured passengers. They played a crucial role in extracting victims before emergency services arrived.
Police and rescue teams subsequently took over, shifting the injured to a nearby hospital.
Seven passengers are reported to have sustained serious injuries, and their condition is being closely monitored. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound shock and grief over the tragic loss of life.
He conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and issued directives to the Chief Secretary, emphasizing the need to ensure that all injured individuals receive the highest quality medical treatment. In response to the accident, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha ordered immediate post-mortem examinations for the deceased and prompt handover of their bodies to their families.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has been in contact with the Vikarabad Collector and Superintendent of Police to gather comprehensive details regarding the accident's cause, ongoing rescue operations, and the medical care being provided.
Vikarabad District Collector Deepak Tewari was also present at the accident site, overseeing the relief efforts.
An inquiry has been initiated to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading to the crash, including the suspected brake failure and the driver's actions.
