Show Up or Step Down: DK Shivakumar’s Tough Stand Against No-Show Congress Leaders
Karnataka's Deputy CM isn't playing around! DK Shivakumar warns Congress members to focus on the SIR voter revision or face the consequences. Get the full scoop here!
The Karnataka Congress is tightening its grip on internal discipline. Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar sent a clear and firm message on Monday to party office bearers: if you missed the two-day conclave on Special Intensive Revision (SIR), your job is at risk. He stated that attendance would be strictly checked, and those who haven't shown interest in the party’s work will be stripped of their positions immediately.
The urgency stems from the upcoming SIR process scheduled to begin on June 20, 2026. The Congress party is concerned that their voter base might be targeted for unfair deletion from electoral rolls. To counter this, they held a two-day strategy session on May 24 and 25 to prepare their ground teams. Shivakumar emphasized that the party isn't protesting the SIR process itself but rather aims to create widespread awareness and ensure that every valid voter is counted and protected during the revision exercise.
Ministers and legislators have been ordered to drop all other commitments and focus entirely on SIR. They are expected to tour their constituencies and meet with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure voter enumeration forms are filled out correctly. Shivakumar also sent a sharp warning to government officials involved in the exercise, urging them to remain neutral and not play politics with the voter lists. He insisted that the enumeration forms must be submitted through the official BLAs to maintain transparency.
Meanwhile, the political temperature in Karnataka remains high as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar head to New Delhi. They have been summoned by the Congress high command for crucial discussions, likely involving Rajya Sabha and MLC nominations. This move has already drawn criticism from the opposition, with BJP leaders taking swipes at Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge over the ongoing internal power dynamics in the state. The meeting in Delhi is seen as a pivotal moment for the party's future strategy in Karnataka.
