India-Japan United: PM Modi & Takaichi Condemn Terror, Boost Strategic Ties

In a pivotal meeting in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi solidified the strategic partnership between India and Japan, unequivocally condemning Pakistan-backed terrorism and charting a course for enhanced cooperation across various sectors.
The leaders expressed strong condemnation of cross-border terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, specifically calling for concerted action against UN-listed terror groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Al Qaeda, and ISIS/Daesh. They also highlighted The Resistance Front (TRF), mentioned in the United Nations Security Council Monitoring Team Report of July 29, 2025.
During their discussions, held at Hyderabad House, PM Modi and Takaichi revisited and condemned past terrorist acts, including the attack in Pahalgam last year and the Red Fort blast that rocked Delhi in November 2025. They stressed the importance of bringing the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of such reprehensible acts to justice without delay.
Beyond security, the summit focused on deepening economic and strategic ties. PM Modi endorsed Japan's announcement to host a global AI summit, signaling a joint commitment to technological advancement. Both nations also reaffirmed their dedication to an early Quad summit and emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation in critical waterways like the Strait of Hormuz, while opposing any unilateral actions in the East and South China Seas. Furthermore, Japan supported India's membership in the International Energy Agency (IEA).
This visit marked Sanae Takaichi's first official trip to India, and PM Modi warmly welcomed her, referring to her as his 'younger sister' and commending her as a "visionary and popular leader." The 16th Japan-India Annual Summit Joint Statement underscored the strategic convergence and robust partnership between the two nations, aiming for a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
