GalaxEye Launches Mission Drishti, India's Largest Privately Developed Earth Satellite
Mission Drishti, India’s largest privately developed Earth observation satellite, from Bengaluru-based GalaxEye, is set to deliver all-weather imagery after a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch.
Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR satellite developed by Bengaluru-based space startup GalaxEye, was successfully launched on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The mission rode a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg, California, and the 190-kilogram satellite is billed as India’s largest privately developed Earth observation platform.
Drishti packs Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors into a single operational platform, enabling all-weather, day-and-night imaging. This integration aims to overcome the limits of conventional systems and deliver more reliable data across diverse environmental conditions.
Initial imagery is expected to be delivered to customers in the coming weeks, marking a milestone for India's private space sector as it expands its Earth observation capabilities.
GalaxEye says the mission signals the growth of privately developed space infrastructure in India and opens new avenues for commercial Earth observation data.
