Meta Cuts 8,000 Jobs: Zuckerberg Shifts Focus to AI in Mass Restructuring

The social media giant Meta has officially initiated a major global layoff drive, affecting over 8,000 employees—roughly 10% of its total workforce. The news arrived via a blunt 4 AM email with the subject line, "Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated," marking a significant turning point in the company's latest restructuring effort. This move is described as a key part of an ongoing strategy to streamline operations and support future investments, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence.

Despite the sudden nature of the announcement, the company has detailed a comprehensive severance package for those impacted. Affected employees will receive a minimum of 16 weeks, or four months, of base pay.
