Horror in Times Square: Bank VP Dead, Suspect Shot After Double Stabbing

New York City was rocked by a tragic and unprovoked double stabbing in Times Square on Monday afternoon, which resulted in the death of a Bank of America Vice President and the suspect. Another individual was also injured in the shocking incident that unfolded in one of the world's busiest public spaces.

The deceased victim was identified as 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, a valued Bank of America employee. A 68-year-old man was also stabbed and is currently in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.

The incident began around 4:24 PM local time when police received multiple 911 calls reporting a woman armed with two knives stabbing people along Seventh Avenue. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the suspect, who had a documented history of mental health issues with the police department, removed two knives from a red Target bag before approaching her first victim.

The 68-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen in what appeared to be a random and unprovoked attack near West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue.

The suspect then continued north towards 42nd Street, where she attacked Erin Piacenti.

Both victims were quickly transported to the hospital, but Ms. Piacenti and the suspect were later pronounced dead.

Police confronted the suspect, who reportedly refused to surrender and advanced on officers wielding the two kitchen knives, leading to officers shooting her.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed the deaths.

Bank of America released a statement expressing deep shock and sadness over the tragic loss of their colleague, stating she was a "valued teammate who will be greatly missed". The unprovoked nature of the attack has left many in the city stunned and mourning.

Authorities have stated the attack was not immediately considered terrorism-related, emphasizing the suspect's mental health history.
