Reports indicate that on Tuesday, a massive 14.3 GB of data pertaining to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant's operations surfaced online. This breach is believed to be part of a wider ransomware attack that targeted Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group's Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. The leaked data is now hosted on "World Leaks," a Dark Web site notorious for publishing information from firms that refuse to pay ransom after cyberattacks. The site claims the ransom was not paid, leading to the data's public release. While the total volume of data leaked by the cybercriminals amounts to a staggering 1.2 terabytes, a significant portion directly concerns the Kudankulam plant.
Reliance Group, a contractor for the plant, confirmed a "partial breach" of its data. They stated that the incident occurred on a server hosted by Yotta, a third-party Indian data center service provider, and that relevant government authorities have been promptly informed. Despite these revelations, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has downplayed the severity of the situation, denying any "sensitive data breach" at the Kudankulam project. However, internal sources at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) reportedly describe "absolute commotion" among the top brass following the alleged leak.
