A western disturbance blankets north India with fresh snowfall in the hills and rainfall in the plains, including Delhi, sparking weather alerts and crop concerns.
A fresh western disturbance is sweeping across north India, bringing snowfall to the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir while showers lash the plains, including Delhi. The system is expected to deliver brief but heavy showers in isolated pockets, posing risks of flash floods and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Snow has been reported on Sadhna Top and other high-altitude spots in Kupwara, Mughal Road in Shopian, Margan Top linking Anantnag with Kishtwar, Razdan Top, Gurez, and Tulail in Bandipora. The Affarwat area in Gulmarg and the Sonamarg-Zojila axis have also seen fresh overnight snowfall, with the plains of the valley receiving rain as temperatures fall under cloudy skies. The drop in day temperatures across the region has forced residents to layer up and adjust to the chill. Shimla’s meteorological office has issued an orange alert for hailstorms. In the plains, rains and hailstorms have disrupted some activities and raised concerns for farmers whose crops could suffer losses.
