Hyderabad Student Fatally Shot at Texas Gas Station
A Hyderabad student pursuing a US master's in data analytics was fatally shot while working a Dallas gas station shift. Pole Chandrashekar, 28, from L.B. Nagar, had studied dental surgery in India before moving to the US
On Friday, October 3, 2025, a Hyderabad student working part-time at a gas station in Dallas, Texas, while pursuing a Master's degree in the United States, was shot and killed. Pole Chandrashekar, the victim, was from Hyderabad's L.B. Nagar and was 28 years old. He was born on April 4, 1997, and after earning his bachelor's degree in dental surgery, he moved to the US to further his studies. At the University of North Texas in Dallas, he was enrolled in a Master's program in data analytics.
Since August 2024, Chandrashekar has been employed part-time at GEICO as a Senior Data Analyst, according to his professional profile. He previously held positions as a Programmer Analyst with Hitachi Energy in Bengaluru from 2020 to 2021 and as a Data Analyst with American Express in Chennai from 2021 to 2023.
According to Dallas police, he worked at a gas station during his free time at the time of the incident. According to reports, Chandrashekar was fatally wounded when robbers opened fire during a hold-up. To repatriate his body to Hyderabad, formalities are being completed.
During his visit to his family, former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao tweeted:
“It is tragic that Chandra Shekhar Pole, a Dalit student from Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning. We, on behalf of BRS, demand that the Telangana government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible.”
A. Revanth Reddy, the chief minister, expressed sorrow and promised to help bring Chandrashekar's body back to his hometown. The state government will support the family, he said.
In my opinion, this tragedy is deeply saddening and highlights the urgent need for stronger safety measures for international students. Educational dreams should never end in violence. Universities and local authorities must work together to ensure that students feel secure and supported at all times. I also believe the Indian government should collaborate with foreign institutions to create dedicated helplines and awareness programs about safety in unfamiliar environments.
