Fast forward to today, and with the next total solar eclipse in the UK not due until 2090, Bliss, not one to wait around, seized the opportunity to witness another. This time, his 18-year-old daughter, Lola, an aspiring science student, joined him on an exciting journey to Spain. They embarked on an adventurous ferry trip from Portsmouth to Santander, in the region of Cantabria, an area strategically positioned "slap bang in the path of totality"—a roughly 180-mile-wide corridor stretching from Siberia through to the Balearic Islands.
Having rented an apartment in the charming surf town of Somo, just east of Santander, their days leading up to the main event were filled with meticulous preparation.
