Parliament Deadlock: Opposition Demands Shah & Modi Speak Up!
Indian Parliament in a 15-day gridlock as Opposition leaders demand answers from Home Minister Amit Shah on police actions against students and PM Modi on the 'chanda chori' issue.
Parliamentary proceedings have been stalled for 15 consecutive days, with the Opposition firmly demanding accountability from key government figures. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has sharply criticized Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged reluctance to address Members of Parliament regarding police actions against protesting youth and students, particularly concerning the NEET paper leak.
Ramesh stated that despite Mr. Shah's presence in Parliament, he 'lacks the courage' to face MPs in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to answer questions about the Delhi Police's 'brutality' on July 20 during the 'Sansad Chalo' march organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
Clashes had erupted between police and students during this protest.
The Congress leader emphasized that these police actions fall 'directly under his charge and control,' making his 'continued absence unprecedented.'
Furthermore, the Opposition has also called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the 'Chanda Chori Aastha Dhoka' issue. Ramesh highlighted that the Prime Minister's 'hand-picked Trust,' whose creation Modi grandly announced in the Lok Sabha on February 5, 2020, has 'betrayed the trust and faith of all Indians.' The Opposition insists that the Prime Minister 'cannot remain silent on it.'
With only four days remaining in the current session, the Congress is urging the Union Home Minister to address the 'police excesses' and the Prime Minister to speak on the 'chanda chori' matter.
The persistent demands have led to repeated adjournments in both Houses, underscoring a significant political stalemate.
