The swamp gang is back, but not quite as we left them! The highly-anticipated trailer for Shrek 5 has just dropped, giving fans a thrilling first glimpse into the next chapter of the beloved animated franchise. And it seems our favorite ogre and his best friend are starting their new adventure behind bars – with Donkey even transformed into a sheep!
Mike Myers returns to voice the grumpy but lovable Shrek, alongside Cameron Diaz as the fierce Princess Fiona, and the inimitable Eddie Murphy as Donkey. The trailer teases an unexpected turn of events as the characters find themselves incarcerated, promising a fresh and exciting storyline for the fifth installment.
Adding to the star-studded cast, Hollywood sensation Zendaya is set to voice Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia. She'll be joined by Marcello Hernandez, known from Happy Gilmore 2, and Superman actor Skyler Gisondo, who will voice her brothers, Fergus and Farkle, expanding the ogre family's presence on screen.
The trailer kicks off with a classic fairytale book opening, depicting Shrek and Donkey heading towards “Further, Further Away.” A narrator sets the scene, but it's quickly interrupted by Donkey's familiar voice exclaiming, “Oh my god, it’s happening, it’s happening!” We then see him among Shrek, Fiona, and the kids in their cozy swamp home. Ever the character, Donkey then talks about needing a “makeover,” comically planning to “get my arms yoked and my back jacked, my abs ab-ded – maybe even tighten up my badonkadonk.” Shrek's deadpan “No, definitely not” is a classic moment.
Despite Shrek's attempts to temper Donkey's excitement, the trailer quickly shifts, revealing glimpses of a magical kingdom and showing Donkey trying to hop onto a wooden train, hinting at the grand adventure that awaits.
