The 79th annual Tony Awards, celebrating the best of Broadway from the 2025-2026 season, lit up New York City's iconic Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night. For the first time, Grammy-winning singer Pink took the reins as host, bringing her vibrant energy to the star-studded ceremony broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
"Schmigadoon!" emerged as a major victor, clinching the coveted Best Musical award. Its triumph didn't stop there, as it also secured awards for Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations, and Best Book of a Musical, marking a significant night for the production. Meanwhile, the newly minted Pulitzer Prize winner "Liberation" was honored with the Best Play award, solidifying its critical acclaim.
Classic revivals also had their moment in the spotlight. "Ragtime" was celebrated as Best Revival of a Musical, taking home a total of four Tonys, including several acting and technical accolades. Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" also had a stellar night, securing the Best Revival prize and a grand total of six Tonys, making it the most awarded individual production of the evening. Laurie Metcalf won for her powerful supporting role in the Nathan Lane-led revival.
The acting categories saw some memorable moments. Veteran actor John Lithgow made history, taking home the first acting trophy of the night for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in "Giant." At 80 years old, Lithgow set a new record as the oldest man to win a competitive acting Tony. Broadway fan-favorite Shoshana Bean earned her first-ever trophy for her featured role in the new musical "The Lost Boys," delivering a heartfelt acceptance speech. Her co-star, Ali Louis Bourzgui, also won for his supporting role as the vampire leader David in the adaptation of the 1987 flick.
