Minister: YSRCP PPP medical college drive a political drama for Jagan's survival
Health Minister accuses YSRCP of fabricating signatures on the PPP medical colleges plan and defends the model as a public-interest effort with ownership retained.
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday accused YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of resorting to a “drama of signature campaign” over the PPP model of developing medical colleges for his political survival. At a press conference, he said the party was fabricating signatures due to lack of public support, arguing the TDP-led coalition government decided to run 10 medical colleges under PPP while keeping ownership with the state.
He argued that PPP is a tool for wealth creation and transformative development. He noted that a Parliamentary Committee endorsed PPP in medical college management, and that NITI Aayog, the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the High Court had found no issues with PPP implementation.
Stating that YSRCP MPs misrepresented PPP as privatisation due to their own misunderstanding, the minister welcomed the party’s decision to approach the court on the issue. He pointed to the broader use of PPP in defense projects and argued that if it could be applied to national highways and Shamshabad airport, it should be viable in health as well, with ownership retained by the public sector.
He also referenced Delhi’s proposal to run 11 medical colleges under PPP and noted that 10 states have successfully implemented PPP in education and infrastructure, suggesting a measured, proven approach to reform.
