WhatsApp Chaos: Accounts Under Review, Users Blocked for 24 Hours!
Massive disruption hits WhatsApp users in India as numerous accounts are suddenly placed 'under review', blocking access for 24 hours. Users voice frustration across social media.
Instant messaging giant WhatsApp left countless users, including many in India, in a state of limbo on Monday, August 3, 2026, as their accounts were abruptly placed "under review" for a 24-hour period. This unexpected move effectively blocked access to all app features, prompting a wave of complaints and confusion across social media platforms. The disruption, which began around 8 p.m. IST, occurred without any prior warning from the Meta-owned messaging service. Users found themselves unable to communicate, with a message displayed stating, "Account in review. Date requested: 3 Aug 2026. Your account activity and device info is being checked to make sure it follows our terms of service. We will notify you of the result typically within 24 hours."
The unexpected suspension caused significant distress, particularly for those who rely on WhatsApp for personal and professional communication. Many took to social media to express their frustration and seek assistance. One user lamented, "My WhatsApp account has been disabled without any explanation. I have already submitted an appeal, but the review page only displays a generic message stating that it will 'typically be reviewed within 24 hours.' Help me urgently." Another user, Saloni, posted on X, "My WhatsApp account was suddenly disabled without any warning. I only use the official app, and my work depends on WhatsApp. Please help. This was so unnecessary."
In response to the widespread issues, a WhatsApp spokesperson acknowledged the problem. They stated, "We are always working to stay ahead of those trying to abuse our service and ban accounts to help keep other users safe. Sometimes we get this wrong and if we do, we try to fix it as quickly as possible to get people back to chatting." This statement indicates that while the company aims to maintain security, legitimate accounts may have been caught in the crossfire. Users were also directed to options within the app to learn about account issues, such as "How to use WhatsApp responsibly" and "About stolen phone and accounts," though these offered little immediate relief for those locked out.
