Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made a significant and emotionally charged visit to Karur today, marking his first official trip to the district since assuming office. During his visit, the Chief Minister distributed compassionate appointment orders to 32 families who were tragically affected by a past stampede, a move aimed at providing solace and support to those who suffered immense loss.
Addressing the gathering, CM Vijay openly shared his deep personal anguish, describing the stampede as "the most painful time of my life." He did not hold back in his criticism, alleging that the Tamil Nadu Police had staged "drama" during the tragic incident. This direct accusation underscores the lasting impact of the event and the Chief Minister's strong feelings about the handling of the crisis.
Beyond addressing the human tragedy, the Chief Minister also focused on economic development in the region. He laid the foundation stone for the Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited, a significant project slated to come up at Manavasi near Krishnarayapuram. This venture represents a substantial investment of ₹1,700 crore, promising to create numerous employment opportunities and boost the local economy.
The Chief Minister's visit was met with extensive security measures across Karur, including barricades, QR code-enabled entry passes for attendees, and heavy police deployment at all venues. Ahead of his visit, the Madras High Court also made a significant decision concerning a jobs row, adding another layer of context to the day's events. Despite the challenges, CM Vijay's visit blended empathy for victims with a forward-looking vision for the district's economic future.
