DP World, the Dubai-based port operator, announced that Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem has resigned from his roles as chairman and chief executive, effective immediately. Essa Kazim was named chairman and Yuvraj Narayan as chief executive, with Sulayem's biography removed from the company’s website.
The resignation comes after newly released files showed Sulayem exchanged hundreds of emails with Jeffrey Epstein over more than a decade. While the documents do not prove wrongdoing, they have intensified scrutiny of a figure who helped turn DP World into a global logistics powerhouse, expanding its influence across six continents and tying its name to major trade routes. The revelations also include an account of a 2016 tour of DP World’s London Gateway port for the Prince of Wales, highlighting Sulayem’s longstanding ties with international figures.
DP World runs port terminals globally and remains a linchpin in global trade infrastructure. The disclosures have sent ripples through partners and investors: sources said the UK’s development finance agency and Canada’s La Caisse de dépôt suspended new investments with the company in the wake of the files. The Earthshot Prize, which received funding from DP World, was reported to the UK Charity Commission after Sulayem appeared in the files.
Industry observers say leadership changes in such a high-profile business could affect strategy and governance, though DP World stressed that the actions do not imply impropriety by the company itself. Kazim and Narayan bring extensive experience in finance and operations to the helm as DP World continues to navigate a complex geopolitical and regulatory environment.
