Golden Globes Snubs Hit Wicked: For Good and Avatar: Fire and Ash
Wicked: For Good earns five nominations but misses Best Musical or Comedy, while Avatar: Fire and Ash faces major snubs in the top categories.
Tonight's Golden Globes nominations sparked surprise as Wicked: For Good landed five nods but missed the coveted Best Musical or Comedy prize. The film did pick up acting nods for Cynthia Erivo (Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy) and Ariana Grande (Best Supporting Actress in Any Film), plus two Best Song nominations for Stephen Schwartz’s 'No Place Like Home' and 'The Girl in the Bubble.' It also earned nominations for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Yet the absence from Best Musical or Comedy marks a rare omission for the Wicked universe after its predecessor turned up in that category last year.
Avatar: Fire and Ash faced even sharper exclusions. While it landed major nods for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and earned a Best Song nomination for Miley Cyrus’s 'Dream as One,' it did not snag Best Motion Picture – Drama or Best Director for James Cameron.
Meanwhile, other titles dominated the field, with contenders like Frankenstein, Hamnet, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Sinners rounding out the Best Motion Picture – Drama lineup.
