Modi vows to correct Congress neglect of Northeast at Guwahati airport inauguration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, on Saturday. Modi asserted that Congress governments ignored Assam and the Northeast for six to seven decades, and that he is correcting those mistakes. He pointed to the 11-year development arc under the BJP government as evidence that justice is finally reaching the people of Assam.
On jobs, Modi claimed that government appointments are now based on merit rather than recommendations or bribes, in contrast to the previous era. He also accused the Congress of encouraging illegal immigration from Bangladesh into Assam and West Bengal to bolster its vote bank, warning that such demographic changes threaten indigenous populations.
He noted that even the Supreme Court acknowledges security concerns, and that the Election Commission is conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a move the Congress has opposed on various fronts. Modi urged Assam's people to stay united to safeguard the state against these perceived threats, invoking Bardoloi’s sacrifices.
With the new terminal touted as the largest in the Northeast, Modi framed the inauguration as a symbol of a region finally getting its due after years of neglect.
