In a significant move impacting the energy sector, the Indian government has announced an increase in the special additional excise duty (SAED) on exports of diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The revised rates will come into effect from June 16, according to a notification issued by the finance ministry.
Under the new regulations, the export duty on diesel has been raised to Rs 14 per litre, up from its previous rate of Rs 13.5 per litre. This is a slight but notable increase for exporters of the commonly used fuel.
Similarly, the duty on aviation turbine fuel (ATF), critical for the airline industry, has seen a more substantial jump. It is now set at Rs 12.5 per litre, an increase from the earlier Rs 9.5 per litre. This change could have implications for airlines and their operating costs.
Interestingly, the export duty on petrol remains unchanged at Rs 1.5 per litre. This selective revision indicates a focused approach by the government, likely aimed at managing domestic supply, refining margins, or revenue generation from specific petroleum products.
