A global Cloudflare outage briefly knocked several popular platforms offline on Friday, leaving users unable to reach services such as Canva and Truth Social. The disruption affected millions of users worldwide as reports of connectivity problems cropped up across various sites.
Cloudflare acknowledged the issue and said it was not the result of an attack. The company’s chief technology officer posted an update around 0920 GMT, indicating that engineers were working to restore services.
The outage is being traced to internal changes, with officials citing the disabling of certain logging features to address a React CVE. While the company has not framed the incident as a security breach, it has prompted discussions about how changes to monitoring tools can impact service availability.
Cloudflare is a platform that provides security, traffic management and optimization for websites and applications, and it claims to manage around 20% of global internet traffic. This disruption follows a similar outage in mid-November that sidelined a range of well-known sites for several hours.
As systems began to recover, reports indicated access was returning to normal for many services by around 0930 GMT, though some apps faced residual issues. The episode underscores how a single provider's maintenance or misconfiguration can ripple across the internet, affecting users and businesses worldwide.
