Kamal Dhyani, 25, a call centre worker from Kailashpuri, was returning home late when he disappeared. He fell into a nearly 15-foot-deep pit dug for a sewer pipeline rehabilitation project by the Delhi Jal Board in Janakpuri. His motorcycle was found nearby, and he did not make it home that night.
Police allege that a sub-contractor, Prajapati, knew about the open pit but did not alert others, raising questions about safety and response at construction sites. An FIR under section 105 (culpable homicide) has been registered against the contractor and some DJB officials. Three DJB engineers were suspended as the investigation unfolds. Prajapati has been arrested, and teams are tracing another man, Yogesh, believed to be from Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the case.
The timeline has drawn scrutiny from the victim's family, who said they were left waiting and given little detail as they searched the area for hours. Police say there was no laxity on their part, and dismiss allegations as the probe continues. The post-mortem is expected on Sunday to determine cause and time of death.
