Unbelievable! Northampton Saints outscore Bath 71-48 in an 18-try rugby epic. Ollie Sleightholme's hat-trick helped make it the league's second-highest scoring game ever! Don't miss the highlights!
In an absolutely astonishing display of rugby, the Northampton Saints delivered a stunning performance at DPD Stadium at Franklin's Gardens, thumping Bath 71-48 in a match that will be remembered for years to come. This incredible encounter saw a mind-boggling 18 tries scored in total, making it the second-highest scoring game in the history of the Gallagher Premiership.
Saints, fresh off a defeat at Bristol Bears, roared back to form in spectacular fashion, much to the delight of their home crowd. The try-fest began just seven minutes in when Fin Smith glided through for Northampton's opener. However, Bath quickly responded with equal ferocity.
A brilliant off-load from Finn Russell set up Arthur Green, whose pass allowed Tom Carr-Smith an easy finish. Just three minutes later, Charlie Griffin crossed the line after a tapped penalty, with Russell converting both tries to give Bath an early lead.
But Saints were not to be outdone, as quick hands led to Tommy Freeman setting up James Pater, whose long pass put Ollie Sleightholme in for his first, bringing Northampton back into a tight contest. The first half continued its breathtaking pace.
Despite Josh Bayliss being sin-binned for Bath, Northampton capitalized when Smith's pass found Freeman under the posts, putting them ahead.
Yet, even with 14 men, Bath fought back, with Archie Griffin barging over to level the scores at 19-19. They then retook the lead as Kepu Tuipulotu broke through flimsy tackles, setting up Green. Not to be outdone, Saints' captain Fraser Dingwall glided through to square things up once more.
A final penalty from Finn Russell with the last kick of an exhilarating first half saw Bath edge ahead 29-26 at the break. The second half picked up right where the first left off. Within two minutes of the restart, Carr-Smith set up Green for his second try, extending Bath's lead.
Saints briefly clawed back when Pater ran in after Santi Carreras fumbled a pass, but Carreras quickly made amends with a walk-in try from a looping Russell ball. The back-and-forth nature was relentless, keeping fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Northampton then began to truly pull away, scoring a flurry of tries that demonstrated their attacking prowess.
Josh Kemeny scored from an Alex Coles pass, bringing the total try count to a dozen within 51 minutes.
Alex Mitchell then showcased individual brilliance by collecting his own kick ahead for a superb try. The home side's momentum was unstoppable, with Ollie Sleightholme securing his second score, pushing Saints past the 50-point mark.
Sleightholme completed his sensational hat-trick, running in under the posts, cementing his status as a key player in this high-scoring affair. Although Bayliss managed to pull a score back for Bath, Smith's strong carry allowed Coles to add to Northampton's tally.
The incredible afternoon concluded with one more try, as quick hands from Rory Hutchinson and Anthony Belleau set up Freeman for his second and Northampton's eleventh try of an extraordinary day, capping off a truly unforgettable performance. #GallagherPrem #RugbyUnion #NorthamptonSaints #PremDingDong
